Many Utility Rates to Increase 30% in 2010 |
PPL (Pennsylvania, Power and Light), PE (Peco Energy) and many other utilities across the nation will increase rates by nearly 30% in 2010 when state imposed rate caps on electric prices expire shortly. The increases do not come at a good time because of other pressures from the economy; however companies can buy electricity from other suppliers to possibly help get better power rates. Often the savings with lower power contracts yield about 10% savings; however the ending costs will still be much higher than costs paid at the present time.
Up until this time, state specific imposed rate caps held electric prices to certain levels for more than a decade. The rate increases will be like going from 1990s pricing
to 2010 pricing all in one step for end users.
